Making pizza with kids
My Ninja foodi air fryer oven is so handy and useful in my kitchen. It’s one of my favorite things to use. It makes everything better. Even the texture of cookies and cakes comes out better in the air fryer oven.
So I have been churning out recipe after recipes using this great piece of equipment. If you don’t have one, you can use the oven for these pizza wontons, but I suggest you put one on your wish list.
Wonton wrappers are easy to find, usually in the produce department, but sometimes with the tofu in the refrigerator section too. They come in two sizes so make sure you get the smaller ones.
If you don’t like pepperoni, the possibilities are endless, just choose the pizza toppings you love and put them in there.
You’ll need a small bowl of water to keep your fingers wet so they won’t stick. Once you fill the wonton wrappers with about a tablespoon of filling, you can pull the sides up around it, moisten the edge of the dough with water, and press them together. Make sure all the edges are sealed. That’s the one major thing when making wontons so you filling will stay INSIDE.
You can use store bought pizza sauce to save time, or make your own like we did. We love making ours the way we like it. We start with our homemade tomato sauce, and add Italian seasoning and garlic salt. It’s amazing so try it if you can!
You can assemble them ahead of time (up to three days) and then store them in the fridge in an air tight container. Then you can pop them in the air fryer and bake them fresh when it’s time to serve. It takes a couple minutes longer to cook them if they are cold.
You can freeze them uncooked as well. Just air fry them about 8 minutes from frozen and they will be perfect. (Times may vary depending on your air fryer)
Leftover cooked wontons will keep for up to three days covered tightly. Just reheat them in the air fryer again.
If your wontons don’t get crispy, try spreading them out further on your tray.
