We started our party by coloring a bunch of animal color sheets. You can find color sheets online to print for free. We printed a variety of them and let the kids choose what they wanted to color.

We cut out some frog finger puppets from craft foam. I cut them with a die-cut machine at the Cherokee Nation resource center, but I’m sure you can find them online as well. The kids had a ton of fun playing with the puppets and jumping all around like frogs.
Zoo animal party ideas
The next activity we did at our zoo party was animal charades. My kids are 2-4 and this was HILARIOUS! They were pretty good at it to my surprise. They acted those animals out with feeling. The other kids guessed all of them eventually. I love their faces as they put their efforts into this. It’s also an awesome way to build friendships and relationships between kids.
Zoo themed party
The next thing we did at our zoo party was going on an animal hunt. You can do a lot of things, like the bear hunt chant or other fun fingerplays. You could even sing Old Mac Donald.
I bought a set of plastic zoo animals and hid them all over the playground for the kids to find. Then I told them they could each find two and said ready, set, go. They took off and hunted like mad. Kids that found more than two shared with other kids that had only found one. Another great way for kids to interact and learn social skills.
Zoo birthday party
You could easily do a zoo party for a birthday or other occasion. You can go as extravagant or as inexpensive as you want. There is so much you can do with animals. I had the kids wear their animal shirts if they had one to make it more festive. We also decorated the walls with some sock monkeys we had.
