Need a quick snack for your kids they will LOVE! You can even hide veggies in healthy smoothies for toddlers (and everyone else) and they won’t even know. It’s a great picky eating solution.
For a great healthy smoothie, you need a base, the flavorings, and the nutrients. It’s an easy breakfast idea kids love as well.
This dish is on our picky eater food list too.
Healthy smoothies for kids
Pineapple juice makes a wonderfully tasty base for any healthy smoothies. Apple juice is good, milk, rice milk, almond milk and coconut milk are all yummy too and work great. For two healthy smoothies, add about two cups of base.
You can also add a cup or half a cup of Greek yogurt for a creamier texture. I like to add it because I have trouble eating it, but I know it’s super healthy for me. If I blend it into a smoothie, the texture doesn’t bother me anymore.
The flavorings can be whatever you like, such as strawberries, pineapple, bananas, peaches, blueberries or any other produce you like the taste of. For two healthy smoothies, add about 2 cups of chopped up fruit or veggies. You can even use homemade flavorings in your smoothies like these. You can also use homemade vanilla powder for an interesting and delicious smoothie flavor.
A healthy smoothie needs a big dose of nutrients. While your flavorings may add all you need, you can also add additional nutrition.
Figure out what you want from your smoothie and add supplements that will get you there. I like to add some raw honey to the smoothie to give it a little sweetness. Kids prefer things that taste sweeter, so try that if your kids aren’t too excited about your smoothies.
Are you looking for protein? Add peanut butter, sun butter, almond butter, etc.
Are you looking for vitamin c? Add pineapple, oranges, broccoli, spinach, etc. (by the way, if you’re adding greens to your healthy smoothie, kids LOVE to drink HULK smoothies, so give that name for your healthy smoothie a whirl!)
You can add a splash of vanilla, and a chunk of ginger, or a sprinkle of salt to make your healthy smoothie even more yummy.
My favorite healthy smoothie to make with the kids is this one: Blueberry Peach Smoothie. Click for the recipe.
