This game is perfect for a summer day, when friends come over, for a family reunion, or any time. Summer is here and it’s time to have more fun and a little competition outside! Don’t let “I’m bored” come out of your kid’s mouths this summer. These garden games are going to save your sanity.

This summer is going to be your most fun (any most frugal) yet! And these garden games are fun for all ages, from toddlers to adults! (You know adults like games, think about corn hole and horse shoes, they’ve been popular for generations).

Wooden tic tac toe game

We had a ton of fun painting rocks and I decided to make bugs for a tic tac toe game. It’s super easy to build a board, you could paint it on the bottom of a bucket or a tree stump, or you could even use tape or just some sticks from the yard.

The bees are the x and the ladybugs are the o. You just have to try to get three in a row. I love using what I already have around to make fun for the kids and me.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money or buy a bunch of plastic waste to have fun. Just look around and get creative. What do you have already? If you painted rocks like we did, here’s another game you can use them for. Hide and seek rock game

DIY yard games

  • Do you have a couple of beach buckets and pink flamingos? This Pink Flamingo Ring Toss game could be set up in a few minutes for hours of tossing fun!
  • Giant Jenga would be so much fun! Here’s how to make a set for your garden area. Lawn twister is easy to make and hours of fun to play!
  • What a fun bowling game you can make with what you already have around. My kids would play with this for hours in the yard.
  • How about making an obstacle course for the kids to play on? Or some homemade water games
  • You can also play games like sack races, water parties, build a tent or cabin, make homemade bubbles, and so much more. It doesn’t have to be limited to the garden. Just getting the kids outside does wonders for everyone.
  • Don’t forget about sidewalk chalk! You can use it to make hop scotch, draw, make a race track for cars or bikes, or tons of fun things. You can do scavenger hunts, and make sensory walks around the garden as well.
  • Do you have a trampoline, you can play trampoline tennis, having a flipping contest, or other fun things while you bounce. It’s a great way to burn up a lot of energy. You can even make outdoor disc golf with a hoola hoop and some frisbees you might already have.

There are so many fun things you can come up with to do in the backyard for hours of summer fun that don’t have to cost money or fill up a landfill.

And your house is going to be the place to be. Remember, if you keep the kids busy, they won’t keep you busy. It’s your choice.
