Do you feel frustrated with your daycare sometimes? Its natural in any relationship. Here’s what parents wish daycare providers knew.
Do you work in a high-stress job? Family childcare is one of the highest burnout jobs there is. Childcare is a very hard job, but one of the most important ones in the world. Taking care of yourself and dealing with stress in family childcare is a high priority for a successful daycare career.
In 1998, the state implemented the Oklahoma Stars Program for rating quality in child care. One-star was for providers who meet minimum license requirements, one-star plus was working toward a higher quality level, two-star was better quality, and three-star was the best. As a new childcare provider, I thought this was a GREAT idea and was on board immediately to get the highest rating.
Why do you think daycare has one of the highest burnout rates of any profession? It is hard work, long hours, and little pay. Why do people do it then? I do it because it’s my passion. I feel every child deserves a great place to be. I feel that just because they were born into this world, they deserve to be built up, nurtured, and loved. Many other providers I know feel the same way. Most of us are in it to love kids and no other reason.
A local childcare organization can be a great benefit to all the providers and families they serve. Daycare is very demanding and we need support from other providers.
Every child deserves a great place to be so I have taught kids for over 20 years. There are some GREAT reasons to choose a career in home daycare.
