Do you think teaching kids to cook is too much of a hassle? Having recipes kids can make could change the future for them.

One time, when I was a child, I got to cook a recipe with my aunt Chelle and we pretended to have a Julia Child tv show. It was the best. I loved cooking with my mom and my grandma. It was a special time we spent together. But this particular time we cooked, and the whole family, grandparents and everyone, watched us demonstrate it. We loved to put on a show!

That potato salad made me SO proud. We accidentally added way too much mustard. My aunt Chelle is only a couple years older than me, so we played together like cousins. She was learning to cook then too. We LOVED Julia, we still do. But all I remember about the potato salad was everyone remarking about how mustardy it was. I remember tasting mostly mustard.

When I was a young adult, I hated to cook, but over time, when I learned to be creative and pool from my inner Julia, I began to love it.

Cooking teaches kids a number of important math, reading, and science lessons. There is a ton of fine motor development involved in cooking as well. Teach your kids to cook early and they will develop better eating habits for the future as well as being able to care for themselves when they get out on their own.

They’ll have the confidence to get in there and make their own food. They may even be feeding you sometimes as well.
